FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) – Fairbanks City Mayor David Pruhs is now denying firefighter union claims city leaders negotiated a contract in bad faith, which firefighters felt would help solve issues hindering the department, including overtime and staffing shortages.
“If we would have done anything in violation of the labor law, this Union would have already filed an unfair labor practice on us. They have not.” Pruhs told Alaska’s News Source Monday. “We fiscally could not afford that contract that was put in front of us in any way, shape or form. We would have violated, we would have broken the charter of the City of Fairbanks if we would have accepted that, that contract.”
