Lifelong Erie resident Rebecca A. Gross expressed optimism when, at 23 years old, she was sworn in as an Erie police patrol officer in June 2022.
Gross said she appreciated the challenges of a job in law enforcement — a job she was starting two years after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis increased scrutiny of police officers nationwide.
“It’s not the easiest time to be a police officer,” Gross told WICU-TV in Erie on June 27, 2022. “But I feel now is the greatest time to make a difference, because people are looking to police officers and … new officers who are younger and can make an impact.”
