Arbitrator Makes Decision On Contract Between Fort Wayne And Fire Union

FORT WAYNE, IN — After one final issue held up a collective bargaining agreement between the city and a firefighter union, the arbitrator assigned to the case has come up with a solution.

On Thursday, the City of Fort Wayne announced in a press release that an agreement had been reached with the Fort Wayne Metro Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 124 over an issue that had loomed over the groups for years: paid sick leave for off-duty injuries. Upon approval by City Council, firefighters can expect up to 12 months of full pay and benefits for all off-duty illnesses or injuries.
