BARRE, VT –The union representing Barre City firefighters said the department is struggling to keep up with emergency calls, even though the station is fully staffed.
Barre City Fire Chief Keith Cushman said staffing levels meet current requirements with a minimum of three, and often four, crew members on every shift.
But in a social media post, the union said the department’s EMS division has not been able to respond to every call, especially when more than one comes in at a time.
Cushman said a rising call volume is at the center of the issue.
